We have a 4-D theater in Illinois, and it’s worth the date night experience if you find yourself bored with the current movie experience, especially if it’s Avengers: Infinity War. It gets 2 thumbs up from Die Alone Dates! If you’re tired of just sitting there passively watching images on the screen you’ll love it, and there’s a lot more to do in Gurnee. You’ll be tilting smoothly in your chair as space scenes play out in 4-D or jarred around so fiercely things fall out of your pocket when there are action scenes. The quick jarring pissed me off because I dropped one of my boading balls I had for over a decade! The 4-D chair movement add a lot of dimension to a film experience. I tend to leave out of a movie just because I get bored with the story and predictable stories so I go to fill up on food and refill my drink, and this was the first time in a long while I stayed glued to my seat. That was due to the 4-D experience because the Avengers movie itself is a 7 out of a 10 movie. Not amazing, but pretty good if you like action films. There’s no real depth in character development or story. The fun quirks of 4-D from air being blown on you surreptitiously, lights shining from various angles, and 3-D adds in were all great. I wouldn’t recommend wasting your money on Avengers: Infinity Wars if you aren’t a fan of Marvel action scenes. It’s just sitting there motionless watching action for 2 plus hours without the 4-D otherwise.
If you love Marvel action scenes you will love Infinity War. The fight scenes based on the classic comic by Jim Starlin, The Infinity Gauntlet, were the best and most memorable. When you use a legendary template like that comic you can’t lose. Seeing so many Marvel superheroes thrown in could have been confusing, but each super hero that shows up does have a purpose and place. You will love the way the teams interact, often meeting each other for the first time in Marvel cinematic history. There are definitely a lot of “Wow!” moments that will make you see the sequel and make you want to watch the previous Marvel films. I find myself wanting to rewatch Doctor Strange, and for all you loser geeks complaining about things in the movie such as things related to Doctor Strange shut the fuck up it’s just a movie. You’re nothing but an overgrown baby if you have problems with it since in reality this Avengers: Infinity War movie is just random entertainment meant to get you to sit there and pay money. There’s no deep moral story to this movie that will get you thinking differently about life or get you to actually change the way you live your life.
As a date night movie a 4-D film at Gurnee Mills Marcus is completely worth it! They have a cheap day during the weekdays though it is typically over $20 to get in. Once you’re done checking out a 4-D movie you can browse the ever evolving Gurnee Mills mall. BTW it’s “Gurnee” not “Gurney” as it should fucking be spelled, dumb a hell. But with so many malls slowly going out of business, this one is still going strong. There’s a Marshall’s for the cost effective shoppers, a good food court reminiscent of malls come and gone, and they even have an escape room there. All those things will have you talking with your date and having memorable fun. We ate Kelly’s Cajun Grill, and it was yummy. Finally, let’s talk about the icing on the cake.
No date night is complete without dessert, and around the Gurney Mills Mall you will find something you like. There’s a Baker’s Square with my favorite French silk pie there, and there’s a donut place that’s pretty popular in the area, Gurnee Donuts. There’s also Tina’s Italian Bake Shop that has great brownies. Really, those two places are a bit above average and ok if you’ve never been out of the house before, but the Baker’s Square pie is always off the chain. After arguing about politics or ex girlfriends you can drown your sorrows in some fucking pie and tell your date, “You make me want to die alone!” If you do the 4-D movie and go to Gurney Mills Mall it’s guaranteed to be a date you’ll remember for life. The 4-D Marcus Theater is right near Six Flags Great America.
