*After attempting to sync up my sites with WordPress’s admin station, I incidently lost all my post from my first year at supergeekdj. I’ll try to get this back to par—Dodson
Chicago is home; the majority of my youth was spent on the southside, attending Dewey Elementary and Wentworth Elementary, from 1988-1997. Undergraduate education through Chicago’s community college system and great books college, from 2013 until 2017, brought me back .Being one of the raised and now the risen, there is opportunity for teaching children how to create zines and murals, in Bridgeport; guiding my peers through Chicago City College’s resources and services,at Wright College ; as well as leading a literacy program in Englewood, through Americorps and Chicago HOPES for Kids. This is Cordell, the geek of Englewood, and this is my story.
JP Hardboiled and the rest of the community’s content will add depth to the intersections of geekdom that combine our origins and experiences. My contribution will give insights on issues like: foster care and being adopted, sports and scholarships, interstate travel, country living, enduring poverty, beating systemic forces, finding your biological family and reintegrating, or returning to college to start your professional career. This will impact our community by bringing an assortment of settings and perspectives to the forefront of geekdom.
My geekdom has origins in hip-hop, Dragon Ball Z, and role-playing games. Hip hop introduces a library of artists that expand generation after generation, which allows the fine-tuning of analytical skills for studying the lyrics of Wu-Tang Clan, MF Doom, MC Chris, or the newest iteration of hip hop Geekdom, Bloody Freddy. Dragon Ball Z introduces anime before finding manga at comic shops. Chrono Trigger ,Final Fantasy 7, Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars . These origins led to the forums, where the geek tongue is spoken fluently.
Being a proud, geek writer involves the evolution of identity. Poetry strengthens this process by acting as an agent for creative expression; academic training includes college newspaper, creative writing, and creating a 35+ page thesis that makes editing natural. Blogging for websites (check out poop jokes here at toiletfinder!) makes you engage with your community and notice trends that teach the fundamentals of advocacy pieces. Facebook converted pleasure into business, with a network spanning 32 states, grounding my trolling in ethics. Nerds and geeks, of different origins and experiences, often have similar gifts, talents, and passions, yet the pen is earned by all who wield it.
Writing about geek culture is a task that is best done with all hands on deck; let’s use the gift of the pen and the geek tongue to serve Chicago and the larger geek community, by expressing ourselves and sharing our origins, experiences, passions, talents, gifts, and perspectives with the world. With that said, let’s look at what type of content to expect: anime content with a focus on Dragon Ball History and popular show reviews; music content will focus on reporting and analysis of the anime mashup culture, local hip-hop scene, and trends of the industry; video game content will focus on role-playing games, worldbuilding, and Chicago tournament culture.
